The One Wedding Planning Tip Every Couple Needs to Hear

Every week there is a new trend, a new rule, a new list of dos and don’ts about planning a wedding.
It is easy to feel like you are supposed to make a thousand decisions that will somehow please every relative, every friend, and every vendor. But then I came across a TikTok from Shoot the Vows featuring Justin, co-owner of The Wedding Talk, and he said something so simple that it stopped me in my tracks.
He said, “The wedding is about you. Never forget that. Always go with that first when you make decisions.”
It is almost funny how often couples forget this. Not because they do not care about their day, but because everyone else’s voice gets louder. Someone wants a specific tradition. Someone else wants a certain song. People mean well, but they are not the ones getting married. You are.
And once you remember that, everything becomes clearer.
Suddenly, it makes sense to choose the venue that feels like home instead of the one that impresses your uncle. It makes sense to write personal vows if that feels right, or keep them private if that feels even better. It makes sense to pick colors you love, food you enjoy, and a photographer who sees your story instead of a photographer who just checks a box.
Your wedding is not a performance. It is a promise. It should feel like you from the moment the day begins to the moment it ends.
So here is my advice, echoing Justin’s words with my whole heart. When you make a decision, big or small, ask yourself one question. Does this feel like us? If the answer is yes, you are on the right track.
Your wedding is yours. Let it reflect the way you love, not the way anyone else thinks it should look.
And if you want someone behind the camera who values that just as deeply, I am right here. I would be honored to tell your story the way it deserves to be told.
