10 Essential Tips for a Perfect Wedding Ceremony

Updated: Dec 18, 2025

Your wedding ceremony is the heart of your big day. It’s the moment you’ve been dreaming about, planning for, and probably pinning on Pinterest forever. As a photographer who has seen it all—from epic confetti showers to Uncle Joe’s iPad photobombs—I’m here to help you make your ceremony smooth, beautiful, and unforgettable. Here are my top 10 tips for brides prepping for their walk down the aisle!

1. Walk Slower Than You Ever Imagined

Seriously, slow it down. The walk down the aisle is not a race! Take your time. Soak in the moment. Let everyone, including your photographer, take in the magic. You might feel like you’re crawling, but trust me, it’ll look elegant and intentional in your photos.

2. Carry Your Bouquet Waist Height, Facing Out

Hold your bouquet at your waist, blooms facing out toward your guests. This position is more flattering and allows everyone to see those gorgeous flowers and your dress in all their glory.

3. Make Sure Your Officiant Moves for the First Kiss

Nothing ruins that iconic first kiss photo like your officiant’s head in the background. Ask your officiant to step aside before you kiss. This way, you’ll get a clean, frame-worthy shot.

4. Hold That First Kiss

Don’t rush it! Pause for a few seconds. Let your photographer capture the moment. Give your guests time to stand, cheer, and celebrate with you. This is your “just married” moment—own it!

5. Stop Halfway Down the Aisle and Kiss

The newlyweds share a romantic dip and kiss as they make their jubilant exit down the aisle, surrounded by cheering guests.

This is a killer photo op and a fun surprise for your guests. Halfway down the aisle, stop, turn, and share another kiss. Your photographer will love you for it, and the photos will be pure joy.

6. Brides, Keep Your Hair Off Your Face

Make sure your hair isn’t covering your face as you walk and during the ceremony. Your guests want to see you, and your photographer wants to capture every smile, laugh, and happy tear.

7. Face Each Other, Not the Officiant

You might feel tempted to angle toward the officiant, but don’t do it. Face your partner, hold hands, and stay connected. This looks better in photos and feels more intimate.

8. Have an Unplugged Ceremony

Ask guests to put away their phones and cameras. You’ll get everyone’s full attention. Plus, your photographer won’t have to dodge iPads in the aisle. Trust me, you want to see your guests’ faces, not their screens.

9. Confetti: Go Big or Go Home

Confetti shots are epic. Skip the tiny cones and bags. Give your guests big buckets or handfuls so everyone can join in. The bigger the confetti moment, the more magical the photos.

10. Look Up During the Confetti Toss

Yes, you might get pelted in the face, but if you look up and embrace it, your photos will be full of energy and laughter. Own the moment!

11. Bonus Tip: Take a Deep Breath and Be Present

This is your wedding day. Things might not go exactly as planned, but if you stay present and focus on each other, you’ll remember the joy, not the hiccups. Laugh, cry, and let yourself feel everything.

Final Thoughts

Your ceremony will fly by, but these tips will help you slow down, be present, and get the most out of every moment—both in real life and in your photos. If you want a photographer who’s all about capturing those real, bold, and joy-filled moments, you know where to find me.
